I thought I’d write a post about the teen top mubank controversy since most of you have only heard one side of the story.
the picture above shows a k-angel’s collection of 60 It’s albums; last week, teen top started their fan sign events and so k-angels planned that they would buy the It’s albums in bulk so it would help them on the charts. teen top’s fancafe has almost 44,000 members. if only 250 angels of the 44,000 members bought 60 albums, it would amount to 15,000 albums sold. i’m not sure how true the rumor about brave brothers buying 12,000 albums but if it were—and im not saying this is how one should go about winning—brave bros isn’t the only one who has done this. several A+ have said that mblaq’s company has bought their own albums as well.

in any case, this whole war because of albums is pretty pointless when it comes to music bank. for those who did their research should know that album sales only counts for 5% of the mubank tally. 65% goes to digital sales. mblaq did well in offline sales while teen top did better in online sales (according to hanteo). however, there’s still the 20% for the number of times the group has been on tv/radio and 10% of viewers choice chart. if you watched it, you can see teen top clearly dominated in those categories.
so basically, to bash teen top for winning on mubank and arguing that brave bros cheated is pointless because album sales counted for only 5%. the rest is done by panelists and the music industry. so if you have a problem with teen top’s win, instead of criticizing teen top, top media, angels and brave brothers, you should take it up with KBS & the korean music industry.
